How to Make an Upholstered Headboard By Yourself

Here’s how to make an upholstered headboard. First of all, assemble your materials for building an upholstered headboard. You’ll need a sheet of 3/4-inch thick plywood, cut to the desired dimensions of your headboard. A measuring tape, household shears, a staple gun and an electric knife are the only tools you will need to complete this project. Other materials that you’ll need include 1- to 2-inch thick upholstery foam, batting and fabric. You can use any type of fabric that you like, but upholstery fabric is often thicker and more durable than other fabrics. You’ll need enough fabric and batting to cover the face of the headboard, the edges of the foam and the board, and around 6 inches along the back side of the plywood. Spray adhesive helps to keep the foam padding attached to the wood board as you work.

To make the upholstered headboards, it requires cutting the upholstery foam to fit the face of your plywood. An electric knife is the best tool for cutting upholstery foam. Simply cut the foam to the same dimensions as your wood panel. The dimensions for cutting the fabric and the batting equal the dimensions of the wood panel, plus 10 inches added to both to give you enough extra fabric to cover the sides of the wood and the foam as well as to wrap around the backside. Trim away the extra fabric and batting when you are finished. The back of the headboard is attached to the wall, so the backside will not be visible.

How to make your upholstered headboard, place the plywood panel face up on the floor. Apply a generous coat of spray adhesive to the wood, then place the foam padding on top. The adhesive dries quickly–read the manufacturer’s instructions for dry times. When the adhesive is dry, stand the plywood board upright to make sure the foam stays put. To upholster the headboard, place the fabric face down on the floor. Place the batting on top of the fabric so that the edges are flush. Center the plywood on top of the batting, foam side down. Beginning at the top center, pull the batting up over the edge of the wood panel and staple to the board. Covering the headboard from the center outward helps you create smooth edges. Continue stapling the batting to the wood around the perimeter of your headboard. Fold the batting on the corners as if you were wrapping a gift. Place staples every 1 to 2 inches along the perimeter of the headboard. When you finish attaching the batting to the wood, cut off the excess. Repeat this process with the fabric to complete your upholstered headboard.

Having lived in both cities for over a decade, I housing in SF is actually more expensive in NYC, although you more for your money in SF. NYC is bigger and more varied, with a lot more on the to buy. OTOH rents are increasing dramatically everywhere except the Bronx. I recommend you up to a starter somewhere for about $200,000. You could an apartment in Oakland or NYC, or a house in a rural of the Hudson Valley more than two hours from NYC, or a cottage or condo in the Raleigh-Durham of North Carolina, which has many of the benefits of the Bay with few of its drawbacks. luck with your search.

I hacked this sofa by wrapping the assist and seat cushions in down, made a current slipcover with a skirt, andd did square instead of rectangular cushions. The seat is originally 15 inches high which is too in my opinion, wrapping the cushions made it a normal 19 height. Altogether I spent around $1000 for a 12 ft modular sofa. I bought the sofa from the as is allotment for $500, $300 for the microvel et fabric, and $200 for the down inserts. I the arms are a lite to high and thin as other commenters stated but it is a clean comfortable sofa now. If in seeing it before and after hack, here is a link:

@Kim @ LiaH–how many of us were those kids? did not change until living w/ roommates, when first agreement was that accepted areas stayed maintained for guests, followed by individual realizations that some guests become romantic guests. areas are for argument. kids need guidance & systems for their absorb spaces (“clean your room” means kid gets lost in first toy picked up), teens ignore systems but already should know them to when they roommates!

I adore to give (and receive) high-quality eco-friendly cleaning products. If you stick to a commonly product (dish soap, all purpose cleaner, laundry detergen) they are almost guaranteed to up, and compose something that is normally a chore more pleasant. I adore Caldrea products, but you can homemade products at craft fairs and etsy too. Of course, this is a non-starter for those allergy sufferers.

If you the blue in the dining room, you could also believe painting the walls around the kitchen a soft color that would with the blue. Then, you could ease up the white but not paint everything as well.

@jlwmid shelving is supposed to be on its out for various reasons, yours being an especially one. Someone will probably savagely attack me for saying this, but commence shelves, in my opinion, work best in restaurants.

You could beget blocks of wood the size and decoupage the labels on to them. And, then nothing else could sneak inside the can to drive mama nuts trying to pull out! Of course, round dowels that are enough could be to cans of beans or soup, too!

a few quibbles:1. Issues with corners depend on listener and speaker position. Listeners sitting in corners or walls usually suffer from boundary reinforcement. Resonances can occur at modal frequencies, depending on speaker and listener position. Volume fluctuations are usually related to the nodes of modes, which are not found in the corners but rather at positions 1/2-way into the room, 1/4-way into the room, etc. depending on the of the mode.2. Imaging refers to spatial, not special, cues. Improperly controlled reflections can also result in exaggerated imaging, where each performer appears to be enormous, ten feet wide (c.f. Bose).

please, if you are going to art at auction, visit your local library and research. ten minutes looking at art sales index can you hundreds of dollars, or more. especially when you will be bidding and hoping to outbid someone else, it is easy to carried away. as an art librarian, I often to people what they should paid after the fact. be smart.

I would echo others and suggest the shutters be removed. The panels under your windows are extremely bewitching and it would be if you made them pop with some color. I would suggest painting those panels a navy/grey color and leave the white. Also, I strongly you to forgo painting the door black. Perhaps a orange-red tone or a teal-blue. I your house! I want it to pop!

@vera faye Yes purchasing a mop is a idea. I one already. Can you that I to come by down on my hands and knees to wash the floors.I purchased a ivy plant instead of getting flowers. I flowers but they are quite expensive. I wanted a ivy for some time. I had a dinky white * sitting in my laundry room begging for someone to it their home. It is sitting on my desk. It looks delighted and so am I.

DC Sarah-Depending on which size top you choose, it runs between $250 and $450. I the cocktail table of this as my coffee table and the finishes they are really beautiful… extremely rich and shiny. My articulate with this is more basic: “Winter-ify”?? “Cozify”??Not every word needs to be rendered into a verb, especially when clunky and essentially senseless (winterify). English boasts an abundance of already-existing verbs, nouns, and epithets that would enable you to similar meaning. In words.Sorry, but this turned an otherwise article into a grating read.

My 1958 kitchen screams for an orange Smeg. However, I rent and someday I will a to a Smeg. Who knows which color that area might need? So, for the meantime, I bought a white 10cf LG. I would never, ever, to a scale refrigerator.

I started using My Fitness Pal on my iPhone about a week ago. I really it. I also My Run, to track my distance and for walks. But when I to input the calorie information from my exercise, the MFP total is always fairly different from the MMR total. Weird…

  17. TrentonJovanni

I had this after re-potting some plants; I there were bug eggs in the potting soil. I went with the cheap, convenient, and highly effective of spraying the plant with a mix of dishwashing liquid and water. Took care of the exiguous * and the plants showed no ill-effects whatsoever.

The store is really inside. The location and positioning seamed a awkward at first, but I got over it as soon as I walked in. The products and are actually affordable. I my fiance and I will be buying some of their organic cotton bedding sets soon.

Oh My *, my seatmate (a stranger) and I got in hysterics over this in the Delta Skymall magazine in July. I always in hysterics over Skymall – there is the most random hilarious stuff in there. I this thing holds delight in two gallons, which got us laughing even harder, thinking about the logistics of cleaning it and how it is.Apparently there is a parody called Skymaul that I am dying to my hands on.

I would attach a small, but comfortable chair, artwork (You can probably your for comely cheap, or images you out of a magazine), and a wall-hung bookshelf, as a sort of compact reading nook.

  21. Alexis Saylor

I agree with Maxwell’s advice. Above and beyond that, I would center the bed on the wall (i.e. shift everything to the right), regardless of the fact that the wall panel mouldings are of different widths. Maybe it’s an optical illusion here, but I feel awkwardly pulled to the left.

I can a rug with some combination of contrasting colors, devour crimson and gold (maybe muted?) to separate the furniture from the carpeting. now the grey, sea foam, and green are all too neutral. You really need something warm in there. Then switch out the vertical blinds for some softer panels to complement the rug and flat file. And one or two pillows with similar colors. Having a color or fashion throughout the room will abet tie it together. Maybe you some prints stored in that flat file that you can hang?

  23. Seth ZZZ

The best entry so far! What a darling room with a overall color story, mix of prints & patterns, and not fair close-up shots of gleaming accessories in some of the other entries. I the fabric!!

This whole article and comments is so for a non US reader… I can´t laughing! In fact, in many countries the bathroom is considered incomplete if there is no bidet. Only in bathrooms is acceptable not to a bidet separate from the toilet, and there is a gadget to add when there is no enough space, something delight in this:

I the advice about bringing the outside inside is – but – the photos of Scandinavian homes during winter are so misleading. Yes we are extremely fond of white but the amount of light in these photos only occurs in a extremely short time frame during the day (when everyone is at work or in school), and only if the weather is really and the sun shines from a certain sky. I assume the colors that are in the Scandinavian homes disappears in photoshop or the camera settings…

I bear been ogling that The Cole & Son Woods wallpaper for a long time, but never could commit to putting it up one of my walls. Now on the fridge… I am so stealing that concept !!!

Beautiful! and re-do. 🙂 I hope to buy my first within the next year, and I am already obsessing over this fashion of storage pieces. The taller legs and bit of detail give them such a feel.

Gwylan, I´m you liked my headboard. It is actually a garden fence cover, they are usually made of bamboo reeds but this one is of thin sticks. I paid 20 Euros for 4 meters long which is affordable, the of the headborad is actually the remaining bit after covering the balcony banister, I had to chop the lenght, the height was perfect. I´m you can easily it in a Garden Centre, and they will tons of models for you to choose. luck! Thanks again to everyone for the warm comments 🙂

I’ve lived in Los Angeles for six years and about a year ago I realized that I didn’t really know that about neighborhoods outside my own. So my current weekend-getaway is to Priceline a local hotel and consume two days getting to know an of Los Angeles. So far I’ve “visited” downtown LA, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood—my next neighborhood is Pasadena. It’s great–I’ve eaten at restaurants I never would otherwise found and stumbled onto some really dinky shops. I an to visit local attractions and museums—I guess I’m a local tourist. Some hotels are better than others but it’s all of the adventure and I’ve gotten some advantageous ideas from some of them.

thank youI wanted to say about the bumpers, that I had Violet in my room in a bassinet until she was 3 months old. At that point she was rolling all around the and I definitely feel more comfortable with bumpers to protect her from getting her arms and legs stuck, and bumping her head.Simply having a fan on in the room while baby sleeps can greatly cleave the of SIDS as well, in addition to having no smokers in the home. Each family obviously does what they feel works for them in regards to crib bumpers, but yes while they can be pretty, they protect babies.

I had a extremely similar apartment to yours, only in Malden, MA and a teeny bit bigger because the kitchen was a separate room. I also had the of one long closet and three foyer closers. Studios, though small, are indeed independence affirming! My memories of that apartment include:- The time a squirrel came in off the fire and helped himself to leftover fruit from the wine party I hosted the night before. He broke a glass, the *!- Meeting a guy on jury duty who had lived in the same apartment a few years prior with his wife. dinky world!

Definitely on the cabinets: there are loads of cheap ones. Try a contractor, what his cheap stuff is and compare the prices to IKEA, you might be surprised (I was! Super-cheap). CHeck the hinges and stuff, though. Then but not necessarily amazingly expensive appliances (I a bosch pullout oven, DW and fridge) and splurge on the countertop and the floor. A quality countertop makes the whole kitchen discover more expensive
