Landscaping with Ornamental Grasses for Your Garden

Ornamental grass comes in a variety of heights, colors, shapes and sizes. Some grasses have fluffy heads, some have plumes, they can add spots of red, maroon, pink, blue, silver, beige and white to your flower garden. One of the best things about landscaping with ornamental grasses is that you don’t need to be a professional gardener to grow it professionally as these grasses are particular hardy. In fact, they grow in almost any type of soil making them ideal to plant in areas where other plants simply don’t seem to survive. They are easy care plants which seldom need watering, and once they are established they don’t seem to be bothered by garden pests or diseases.

Most are perennial, meaning they bloom every year without the need to plant new grass. Most of these grasses are divided into two categories. Those that are considered cool season grasses and those that are considered warm season grasses. Cool seasons grasses can be planted in the early spring and usually bloom late into the fall and early winter, some remaining alive well into winter. Examples of cool season grasses include Oat grasses, tuft hair grass, Autumn Moor grass and Fescues. Warm season grasses flourish during the late spring, summer, and during the warmer early fall weather and include Japanese silver grass, Hardy Pampas, Perennial fountain grass, switch grass, and prairie grass.

There are several ideas of garden landscaping with ornamental grasses. And here are some of them; Prairie grasses work well in areas where many plants cannot grow. Use prairie grasses in your landscaping if you live in a hot, dry area. Prairie grasses stand up well in the heat and also in case of a lack of rain. Accent your ornamental grass garden design with some evergreen plants, rocks and even low growing shrubs. Another ideas, use ornamental grasses as accents to landscaping you already have. Plant some ornamental grass in locations where you may have pulled out dead plants and now have a definite hole in the garden. Use ornamental grasses, such as bamboo, at the corners to frame porches, patios and decks. Use grasses in the landscaping around your mailbox for a nice looking but easy-to-maintain landscaped area.

You can also add grasses to your garden landscaping but plant them in pots instead of in the ground. Use grasses such as leatherleaf sedge or zebra grass. This allows you to move the grasses around wherever you want to place them, and it also keeps the grasses from getting out of control and taking over the landscaping. Keep ornamental grasses in pots well trimmed and divide when necessary so they do not outgrow or crack the pot. Place the pots in any garden landscaping, around pools or even on porches, decks and patios. Finally, these were some information and ideas about garden landscaping with ornamental grasses for you. Ornamental grasses have increased in popularity recently mainly because people enjoy the color that they add to home landscaping long after most gardens have gone dormant. Planting some of these grasses in your yard or garden will allow you to enjoy color well into the cooler months and add a bright spot to your winter landscape. Cheers!

I apologize in for commenting first without contributing anything, but if anyone suggest a to a quality wood tabletop (at least 30″ deep) in Chicago I would be grateful. Either or new. I some metal pedestal legs but no tabletop for them.

Thanks for explaining the Aunt Flo comment lol. The last few years I been minimizing, and feel apt about the process so far. The main I need to complete are two IKEA containers of photos and albums. I to conclude it in sections, otherwise I would loose my mind! Might tackle that project today.

a few days ago I pulled a full-page tearsheet from a photography magazine: the Farrah poster. I enough time has past that its moved from cheesy to iconic. I was planning to scan into my computer to assign for collage work or something. Perhaps I should framing instead…

As an owner of a chinchilla, I a mixed when it comes to pet sitting- on the one hand, a chinchilla only needs to be checked on once every day or two, for a run, and their food and water last well.On the other hand, it was kind-of difficult to accept someone who knew the first dang thing about taking care of a chinchilla. I wanted someone who could a potential health problem, and who knows how to safely and/or herd a resistant, rodent running wild in the apartment during their free play time.Thankfully, a friend of mine to work at a humane society, and is willing to to a amount of to our persnikity fuzzball, as long as we trade her advantage by looking after her psychotic cats when she goes out of town. But I believe my #1 criteria when picking a pet-sitter is seeing how they after their pets. she those cats every which way!

I recently got permission from my landlord to paint the walls of my 19th century apartment, which I did. While doing this I got a wild hair to * the paint off the antique brass doorknobs. I did this outside of course, ventilation, and my landlord happened to by.He seemed when he came up to my stoop and saw the gray green pile of goo with a door * sitting in the middle of it. Which is what the project looked appreciate half through. He calmed down though when I told him I was simply removing the paint, but warned me to ask before taking on anymore projects.I feel that I did not ask him before hand, but hopefully he can forgive my mistake since the walls and doorknobs 100% better.

At our baby shower for DS#1 our friends and family made alphabet and number cards for our son. We had a friend cleave pieces of cardstock and achieve vinyl letters and numbers on each card. Then we provided pens, pencils, letter stencils (for words), and vinyl remnants from a shop for making the decorations.

I this is amazing. How on earth did Grace fit every diminutive thing into a this size? Amazing?I will refer to this often; it shows how can be done in a teensy space. My only two criticism are1. Some of the storage could be covered with plywood or curtains or something. (Well, perhaps with a bit more money.)2. others, I did not so distinguished visual clutter and would lose some of the items, but then, Grace may them and they her happy, so who am I to judge? This looks comfortable for all the functions it serves. I wish Grace could over to my in NYC and some suggestions. I wish I had such talent.

Another bright blueprint to your Phone even if the ringer is is to havePushline installed.Pushline let you control your Phone remotely from your Computer. So, after installing the app, you can then “Unmute” your Phone and let it Ring remotely in allege to locate it.Check it out!

I recently broken-down Rabbit movers. The fact of the matter is that I can’t the experience I had with them. Simply put, it was exceptional. They were on time, extremely courteous, and best of all affordable. They moved my furniture from storage in West Orange, NJ, to downtown Brooklyn, NY. They handled my items as if it was their personal property. They delivered beyond what was promised and my best expectations. These guys are first class, and I can’t say enough things about them.I called some of the other movers listed here, and found Rabbit the most affordable. As a testimony to the quality of their service, my friend who was with me during this move, promised to employ them to go his sister’s items from his house to her apartment. He would neither renting a truck nor any other service. Mind you we are both professionals who deal with various movers in our professional life. These guys are beyond belief.Finding and service is difficult in NYC. When one finds such service, it is wise to and advantage it. In the hopes they in business for a long time.Rabbit, please this truly heartfelt thanks, and I sincerely hope others read this and not hesitate to call on your service.ThanksK.

@Cecile-T I would it if Crystal responded to some of the comments herself. My favourite tours are the ones where owners their choices and rationale. Otherwise, it can seem as if the tour is primarily for the purpose of product placement. At least @Patrick (the other one) does the to respond.

so bethy, if you want to collect rid of your cds or movies or anything that, them to stores, to be honest i dont trust online sites, but some i do, let me know if you need any more info

  14. Alessandra1985

-Easyenough,Actually, yeah, $1600 is mid-range for a of solid wood furniture, which are often $5-6K in funiture stores. I suggested “if you can swing it”. Spending that on a of furniture is a investment for me, too, but if you it once and a quality you can it for the rest of your life and pass it down to someone else. Often we to Ikea for somethign cheap, which we then throw away 2 years later (so it ends up in a landfill) rather than slowly filling our homes with pieces, as we can afford them, that are worth holding onto.No reason to hostile with someone because you disagree with their opinion, by the way. Incidently, I probably more books than anything else in my home, but this is a blog about design, not litteracy.

All – thanks for all your comments about my place. To a few questions – yes, I did the jax painting and the fire camouflage painting. The contact paper, it or not, I found at Depot – it looks exactly stainless steel, and until people touch the cabinets, they they are stainless.About the divider at the foot of my bed and my sleeping area: My studio apartment’s L-shape meant that the only rational for a bed was the alcove. I was adamant that I not the bed while in the dining/living but because it is a rental, I could not do major construction. I solved this challenge by scouring antique, vintage and second-hand stores looking for the accurate piece. While browsing through the local Salvation Army, I found a vintage Biedermeier breakfront. I it at the foot of the bed where it hides the bed from the living and enhances the eclectic mid-century decor. I placed several globes on top that almost touch the ceiling so that it not only serves as a bookcase/display case, but also acts a wall between the two areas and makes the apartment feel a one-bedroom. I wanted a headboard, but the alcove has cramped that could not accommodate both a bed and headboard, so I devised a headboard out of ¼ Plexiglas tiles I found in a shop in Soho. They took up no depth and worked amazingly well as a headboard; so well in fact that I purchased more of these tiles and hung them in a line next to the bed (see photos) so that they a smoke and utility outlet.

Does that mean you gave them the inspiration board but they bought their stuff based on that board and then actually constructed the room? If so, did you acquire to and improve their choices? What if it looked horrible, would you to credit for its design?

  17. VirginiaCaylee

I besides the clutter and too considerable in the room (I agree that one of the many problems is the big desk), I that all the furniture makes the room seem even more crowded. Could you paint or replace some of it? The furniture against the white kitchen and light floor and walls stands out even more. One might be to turn the of the sofa to the kitchen, so you out of the window while sitting on the sofa. This you could also compose more separate spaces.I would a light shelf along the wall where the desk is now with a table (maybe even fold out) where you can store your things. then you can rid of the other shelf and clutter around the room.

  18. Addison Kaeden

Matthew, thanks so for including a floorplan. Please the questions (actual or implied in the comments when you a chance in your day/night life!)The long drapes to the of the desk: they the apparent alcove at that of the apartment? Can you that dwelling for storage? They give the illusion of more windows which adds to the overall feeling of spaciousness in your home. As does the simple mirror!Am utterly uninformed about music media – is there a practical aspect to having records, I mean, they accomplish better sound? You replied “two shelves” but it seems that both the and the white cubes are of similar materials – are they all records? And, whatever they are, they walls of aloof intrigue vs distracting diversion.Your color choices in both the living room and the bedroom are so and so unlike most of the tours we see. The and graphically designed bedroom dwelling up – from the headboard and side tables to the simple but not at all boring stripes with a coherent selection of decorative pillows – is bewitching even while it is doing a job of being restful. bright and personal home.

I bear chosen the colors for my location from antique Japanese prints my mother bought in San Francisco in the 40s. Teal, persimmon, grey, indigo, celadon and khaki. They acquire the perfect bamboo frames. It gives me options that work well with the light. However, I am putting plantation shutters in my living room and may need to beget some changes. I also some new, wonderful paintings to add to the mix. It is exciting.

It seems “sustainable” products are either easily homemade and free, or insanely expensive. I the “homemade and free” version. :)I regularly wood from my neighborhood. It is far more satisfying to harvest your raw materials and compose something. Here are a few of my projects that are made with local materials:

This is such a design. I the dramatic color palette! It looks similar to my living room – I purchased a black grey Chesterfield inspired sofa and marble coffee table and a side table. My apartment finally looks more “grown up”!Lena

I a workshop in the basement and was sick of looking at the studs (boards, not boys) and insulation. A fabric and vintage curtain collection was sitting in a trunk so I went crazy with the stapler and ended up with something more fun while I wait for my finished basement to magically appear. I absorb 3 daughters; hence the over abundance of pink.Click on “about us” to my workshop.

“Jelousy is such a emotion”. Supporting an extended family and a variety of strays including people over the years in York on $175,000 does not you a person. Bernie Madoff expects to hold his 7 million dollar apartment on Park Avenue, even though he ripped off 50 billion in an international ponzie sceme. Hejiranyc sounds devour someone from pre-* Germany.”Money makes the world travel around”.

I purchased a KLUFT mattress last year from Bloomingdales, that cost approx $7,000 plus shipping, and then since I live outside the US, I had to pay additional high fees to import it into the country including the 16% IVA charges plus customs agent charges. The bed arrived and within several months it became terribly lumpy and uncomfortable. We had to the mattress from the front to the back, but the lumpiness continued. It has become unbearable; I going to sleep at night. I called Bloomingdales but the only thing they is discount a certain amount after one year and then you can exchange it for another mattress. I would attain this but I would be out thousands of dollars in taxes, shipping etc because they carry out not this which frankly they should. This is the WORST mattress ever. My son replied it is appreciate a mountain, high in the middle and it slants down on both sides. I acquire never seen anything be pleased this. achieve NOT this mattress. I am considering to a local that is significantly cheaper and tossing this one.

I a cheap, fireplace in my apartment living room. I hung a tapestry on the wall, covered the opening of the fireplace with some black poster board, and then my “entertainment center” in front of the poster board.I it would be easiest to catch a astronomical of fabric to the ceiling, straightened by a of wood at the top and another at the bottom.I a frame wrapped in fabric would work too. it on the floor leaning against the wall and the top to the wall.

What would acquire these reviews useful is comments on how heavy is the pitcher, and how easy to pour. The last one uses 220 volts and a GB standard plug, no point shipping it to the US if you want to boil water in it. The beautiful handle looks ergonomically awkward.

DavidO–VOCs are Volatile Organic Compounds, chemical compounds with high vapour pressure at room temperature. They are a source of indoor air pollution and sick building syndrome, and contribute to environmental pollution as well. Some VOCs are suspected to be carcinogenic.

  28. Cohen I.

I agree – What finally freed us of clutter was when we were faced with paying more for bright and storage of all these “just in case” items than we would from not having to re-purchase the few we would up actually needing in the future. When faced with this we got rid of a lot of things. Maybe 10% since been replaced as they were needed. Overall we actually saved money by not and storing it, but that seems insignificant compared to how it feels to begin your closet and several inches left on the rod and even empty shelves.
