Decorating Your Bedroom with Luxury Victorian Bedroom Ideas

Victorian-era colours were rich and bold and perfect for a restful bedroom. Paint your walls a deep maroon, violet blue or dark forest green. Use an eggshell finish to add to the rich look of the paint colour. If you’d like to add a little modern touch, paint the wall where the bed sits a deeper shade of your room colour to add some additional depth and drama. If you are undecided about your wall colour, find a traditional Victorian art print to use in the room and pull your main colour from the painting. You are sure to find one of the above colours featured in your selected artwork, so take your painting to the paint store for an exact match, or select a coordinating colour to work with. An authentic Victorian bedroom would also feature dark wood trim. If your current woodwork is painted, you’ll have to strip it and then stain it a deep, dark brown, which will frame your luxurious paint colour nicely. Another Victorian bedroom ideas is about the bed. A Victorian bedroom would feature a great bed, so when selecting a properly styled Victorian-type bed frame, don’t skimp on your purchase. Select a heavy mahogany or walnut bed frame with as much detailed carving as you can find. A canopy bed is also acceptable, but again, look for thick posts and carved details. A cast-iron or bronzed bed frame also fits into a Victorian decor, so check out antique shops and online sources to find an authentic bed or a convincing reproduction. If you can’t shell out the bucks for a bed frame, don’t fear. You can dress up your bed in the Victorian way and no one will even notice it’s missing. Dressing the bed was a real event for the Victorian household and would include luxurious fabrics and decorations. Silk sheets will make it authentic, but to save money you could go with a high-thread-count dark maroon sheets. The coverlet or quilt should be opulent–quilted, embroidered or highly decorated with gold trim and tassels. Ruffles and pleats in silk or velvet will transform your room into a Victorian dream. If you can’t find really over-the-top bedding, check out the fabric at your local sewing shop and have a friend hem some up for you. No Victorian bed is complete without a pile of pillows, all dressed in silk and tassels and gold-threaded designs. Purchase a variety of sizes and shapes and place extra ones on occasional chairs or a window bench.

Everything is thoroughly dressed in a Victorian bedroom, and that includes all the furnishings. You’ll want ornately carved wood dressers, a vanity, bureau and round tables to be placed bedside. Side tables should be draped in fabric and feature bronze or porcelain table lamps. Marble-topped bureaus were also in style in Victorian times and can be used in your bedroom. Victorian bedrooms feature doilies under lamps and on top of wooden furnishings, so pick some up at an antique store or vintage shop. Chairs should have embroidered seats and be in a dark wood colour. If your bedroom is large, you could create a cosy sitting area for reading to include an upholstered chair and round table. Place hardcover vintage books on the table for interest. The next Victorian bedroom ideas, go detail for your window treatment. Windows are dressed to mimic the most ornate theatre, with heavy velvet or dark silk fabrics. Brocade trim, tassels and pull backs are also required to fulfil the Victorian design. You may want to place a lace curtain closest to the window to let in light during the day, and then add the heavier drapes to the side for drama. Floors should be hardwood and dolled up with a traditional Oriental rug in a red tone. Heavily designed, the rug will help the eye to travel throughout the room and will provide that authentic “antique” feel.

Accessories are vital in an authentic Victorian bedroom and should not be skimped on. Layer in antique photographs in silver or bronze-coloured frames and purchase a few Victorian-era reproduction paintings for the walls. Botanical prints were also popular in this era, so find an old botanical book and frame up the drawings in vintage frames. Dressers and vanities should be heaped with jewellery boxes and vanity sets including a silver tray, hair brush and mirror. Candles can be placed throughout the room in silver candle holders, and small porcelain knick-knacks will also lend Victorian authenticity to the space. China and coloured glass pieces are also very Victorian, so shop around and buy pieces you love. So making a Victorian bedroom can be quite easy all you need to do is just carry out a little research and hopefully you will be able to design and decorate the bedroom of your dreams.

I bought in August of last year and am I did. I not demand my home to me tons of cash in the next few years. I will be if it stays the same. My quality of life is so considerable better now that I am not renting. I aged to live in a building that rented to fraction 8 (very in the DC area). Although our rent was twice that of our neighbors we got the same * service.Rosie, I bought 1 mile from the Reston Town Center mentioned in the article and I am so contented with it. I feel I the best of both worlds. My property took a hit (about $60,000 decrease) before I bought and it has stayed the same since I bought, so I feel ok.

I donated mine to a local crisis pregnancy center. They replied that they often up giving out supplies to expectant moms in plastic grocery sacks and having gift bags makes it nicer.

assign files if you wish. some overhead on the drive though! Adding a 2nd drive for your growing data with current SATA drives in desktops is really easy. So some of the archaic software especially where you not need a disc and can be saved on your hard drive. No room here to a lot more except some software has to be seriously reinstalled in current machines and re registered etc. and some school stuff can almost literally thrown and and or else additionally the software install over it then it will be OK in a fresh PC and Windows. My email and newsreader software originally date from shareware [and so does one conventional graphics viewer I to pics fast] mid 1990s and upgraded along the many times keeping ALL data with it – collected saved a few messages from then that at the bottom of LONG list.

It is hard to from the photo, but I am assuming that the opening is about four feet wide at the bottom. If so, I would just a of MDF ot the size and shape of the opening. Nail or * a one by one on the hand side (or if you all around the opening), and mount the MDF door with those european invisible hinges. a hand on the left side, or a * that goes with your interior. Leave a at the bottom so it does not scape the floor. Paint to match the room. Instant closet.

the tile, replace the commode & maybe the sink if you desire. Call a professional to re-glaze eveything: tub, sink, walls etc. There are many colors to from and its the best * for your buck. Everything else can be spruced up with wall paint, lighting fixture and hardware. You can probably the bathroom done for $500 tops. Not a lot of money considering you to live with it a long time.

advice! One of the first things I did when we moved into our house, was a Zen garden across from the sliders in our walk-out basement. We had a stockade fence in to match one it would need to adjoin. Then directly across from the sliders on the fence, I mounted a chilly (non Zen) Sun face cast from iron. I made a rough yin/yang planting bed with brick edgers and planted a Japanese maple on one side surrounded by carefully transplanted moss. The other half of the I filled with pea gravel and a Asian looking birdbath. The whole is only about 4-5 feet wide and maybe 2 feet deep — and it makes me smile!Since then I absorb done tons more landscaping, but that garden only needs occasional weeding to continue to me smile — and bag compliments!

@Jack Mari It is REALLY to that balance, as you note. We feel delight in we struck it – at least for us – but your point is well taken. Definitely the white counter-top/backsplash served to chilly down some of the choices, something we were a bit leery about as we were trying to figure out what to do…

My last house was built by a retired couple and had 2 bathrooms. Hall/guest bath had tub/shower combo. Master bath had only a shower stall.Oddly when the house was on the market, other agents always lamented the missing master tub. When asked how often they personally took a tub bath at home, their was usually 1-2 times a year. The house buyer was ripping out the master shower for a tub instead. Our agent mentioned that was not return, if any, for the construction.Tubs are a lifestyle if you conclude not absorb kids. As you age, they are a liability. In areas with drought and water rationing, they are a waste. All that said, at least one tub in your house for bathing cramped children, and hand washable items.I would some knowledgeable agents in your for advice on tub vs no tub.

When I to the dentist it is shoes off and slippers provided. Midwife office has a shoe removal and no slippers offered, I think. Anyways it is a Canadian norm. If you unpleasant feet you prepared with indoor shoes. The only exception to the rule is people bewitching furniture etc. And even then I acquire been known to attempt to shoes on at the door.

Yes, I purchased my Noguchi knock-off table from them about 4 months ago. It arrived packaged well (cardboard boxes, plenty of molded styrofoam, metal strapped to wood pallets). I was pleasantly surprised that a table weighing in excess of a 100# with 3/4″ thick glass arrived in perfect condition. I was desirable with them.

@tcualum,Budget shopping catalogs and printing my wedding programs/bulletins from scratch myself on religious store store stuff instead of wedding company stuff. When I married, postcards were not an option or comprehended.Eyebrows were raised extremely high on foreheads with no dj/dancing and no alcohol at at our wedding. And, GASP, the groom wore the formal suit version for his neck ware. Rolling eyes. It was what he wanted, and I supported him in that decision through multiple rental shops.

Im not trying to sound an insenstive *, but I dont I would a friend or a relative coming over to my house and putting masking tape up all over my house, for me to later. If your kid is running amok and you to that about them, maybe you should a closer on them…2 cents.

This is my approved of house, so I was to this tour. Some elements, but I wish there were an exterior shot. This tour also made me realize that my dream Spanish colonial is about 1/3 the size of this home. It loses something at that scale.

I agree with the previous poster – ditch the awning ASAP! Landscaping will wonders; adding some medium sized bushes under the horizontal window will soften the and it appear more purposeful. A wider, more stair and railing up the front steps will also things more welcoming.

house! I live in Toronto too.I a about the white shelving upstairs (bookshelves) under the alcove wall/ceiling. My apartment has tons of these types of walls and I been thinking about doing something similar. Did you the shelves or them somewhere? If the former, did you follow a specific tutorial? Thanks so much.

@Lucillle Never underestimate those ankle biters. Over the past many, many years, I had a series of three dustmops. Two had a nasty, horrifying growl. The other nincompoop would gladly the door for the burglar, if he could. [In many ways, I loved him the most!]

This post is exactly how I feel as an interior designer…Its a struggle to try to people to try things that are unconventional. To me, this ‘tension’ is so considerable more refreshing than having everything match and be so. It me to read these ‘try-hard’ comments… The title is: ‘HOW TO avoid rooms that are too perfect’ – not ‘AVOID rooms that are too perfect’.In any field, innovating is about taking risks and doing things that may seem odd. People who are striving to innovate and try things that may seem or different are driven by a passion – they are not being pretentious, they are not trying to display off – they are having fun with design! Nobody replied everyone has to a boulder in their dining room *but* I the audacity, and others can inspiration in these examples without copying the specifics

I the of more tech in the household if it helps with making daily life easier. 3D TVs seem blah compared to well designed cleaning technology or safety controls.I disagree about the floor belief thing. We an kitchen (open to built-in dining and the living room) but also bear defined rooms. I assume having a dwelling aside for family dinners and quality time is important, and I hope we more of a shift in this direction. With how connected we are with computers/phones/etc it would be if there were a in the that you could live in with some undivided attention to the things that really matter.. even for a half hour!

Yes, a window treatment contractor told me that, of the faux wood blinds, he recommended only white. White passes as painted wood, while even the more expensive faux wood blinds are clearly synthetic, not wood, in browns.

Reminds me of the “cool hang out” in the cartoon Braceface. I it was comedy, what trendy teen would really want to hang out at a glamorized laundry mat. Shows what I know and I can only hope to absorb kids that would not mind doing the laundry now. *Still my least chore*

Most people at least I know rsvp for the weddings. For other more informal parties you can evite of paper but in mind that some older people not computers. Also its easy to delete something but accident thinking its junk. Most people say “regrets only” Then if you are coming you not to call. I that is the to go.
